View Full Version : getting animation from one skeleton to a similar other

hey

i am animating for a computer game
and the modellers model a lot of characters with different proportions
so one animated skel fits all doesnt really work

so what i do is modify the skeleton to fit the different characters

is there an easy way to copy animations from one of these characters to the others ?

the skeleton is pretty much the same just bigger legs, bigger feet, hands, arms and so on

With skeletons that are very similar in structure (but not nec. proportions), and basically bipeds, the Retarget Skeleton (I think this came in with 6.5, but it might've been 6) can work petty well. I've had some decent luck with it transferring 'generic' mo-cap to my rigs.

Or, you could make both skeltons character sets and map them to each other. Then simply take the animated clip of one character and put it in the timeline of the other. Then activate keys and delete the clip. The process is slightly longer, but it is something which is 99.999% safe.....;)
