Title: Polaris Expedition Astronaut
Name: Adam Bochenek
Country: USA
Software: Maya, Photoshop
This model was created for a recent class. Along with this model I created an animation of this astronaut requesting permission to dock his ship at a space station. There was no reply.... Was the communication interrupted by cosmic interference? I may develop this concept further.
This character was modeled/setup in Maya and his textures were created in photoshop.
Any critiques on this character model would be appreciated. Thanks.

I appreciate the first two replys - but the last one is unfair. I was going through different color schemes and this is the one I went with for now. I may post an image of the character with his complete body armor/suit at a later date.

The model looks good, wires would be nice to see :)
I have to agree though he does look a little bit on the camp side; I think its just the pose. On the middle pic, his knees are very close together and the way he is waving just makes me think of a pose cp3o would make.
Model is good though, would like to see the animation...

I love the model and the job you did on the textures. Very good. On the bad side, the head seems strange for this strikes me as a teenage girl body and poses. Here is an article I just read about posing http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.asp?p=22797&seqNum=4

Thanks Rick, MrJames, Ricardo, and Wojciech - I appreciate your positive thoughts and constructive criticism on my model! With all your suggestions and my tweaking I think I will eventually have a really good character model.
MrJames you are right - the middle image is the classic (not very heroic) c3po pose! No offense to 3po -- he is a protocol droid after all!! The original idea behind the image was that he was writing on projected touch screen. Since it was not fully realized it was not a very good idea.
Maybe the color combination is ok for this model. I guess I'm tired of green and grey/brown though that combo might also work well with this model.
I have also been working on a female counterpart for this model. Once I complete this character I may create a new thread. There is no shared geometry between the two characters.
Yeh, I have recently realized just how important good texturing is in creating a successful model.
I agree, with the possible exception of the far left image the poses are weak. Thanks for the article link.
I have included some shaded and wireframe images of the model. If you have any thoughts on how to improve the body - dont hesitate to let me know.
I will post some more heroic poses to this thread over the weekend. So,if you have subscribed to this thread you can see some updates.
Thanks, Adam

Turns out I don't know how to add additional images to this thread.
I am probably overlooking something.
here is a link to the images mentioned above.

Thicker thighs, thicker neck, brawder shoulders, and the chest armor makes it look like he has breasts.
