Title: Spring Petals
Name: Natascha Roeoesli
Country: Greece
Software: Photoshop
The third addition to my season series.
This time Spring.
Some throughts I had while painting this:
Spring has to fight her way out of the grasp of Winter before she can fully blossom.
Thus the webish cocoon thing at the bottom of her dress.
The dress itself is supposed to mimic a caterpillar at the bottom and the floating veils should sympolize the transformation into a butterfly (probably a bit too much symbolism and suger hmm?)..
I added the cloudy weather because April belongs to Spring and I really hate the moody character of that Month..you can have sun and the next time clouds coming in and rain for hours..
Some other things which are personal to me have been added as well but I am not going to bore you with that :) (the things that made me chose the color scheme above all).
I used a smiliar picture of myself for the arms and hands (didn't help much though - I shouldn't have chosen that pose to start with...) and all different kind of butterfly pictures and flowers (mainly of chinese cherry trees and Magnolias (spelling?))
No references for the clothing or anything else
Hope you enjoy! :)
Some 50% Closeups (100% will follow after I watched a movie and got some food).

Great work as per usual!
Im not too keen on her face (must be the square looking jaw), but the rest of it is beautiful.
Great work on the colours and i really love the little details like the webbing on the bottom of her dress, the flowers in the foreground, and the pattern on her flowing veil.
Is everyone doing these for a book or something? Since seeing Linda's spring fairy pic, ive seen a lot of seasonal fantasy pics popping up - is there a comp in the works on some other forum or something? Or is it just coincidence?

hmm..I am rather confused about this painting now. My main goal was to again try out new things - more dynamic influences and movement. New color scheme and pose/angles that I normally hate painting (teheh I guess it shows).
It didn't get approved at epilogue so I guess I probably shouldn't have posted it before doing more work on it? Right now I am considering going over it completely >_<
minminxu: thank you :)
blz: glad you like it, thanks.
Kaspaas: I guess there are tons of things that are not right but I am really happy you like it ^^
dunkelgold: Benita, thanks. I love Magnolias too, one of the reasons I put them in there :D
Andy H: yeah I agree on the jaw :/ I am trying to go over it again. The problem is that every time I try to thin out her chin it changes her head pose..she is supposed to look down at the viewer slightly. You know her head slightly bent backwards. That is one of the tiny details that seems so hard to paint for me >_<
And I don't know. I haven't seen many seasonal paintings except for my own series to be honest and I started that last year in October or something I think.
I am not even quite sure which Painting of Linda you mean :)
deligaris: Nick, thank you ^^
sh@ke: tehehe I definately wouldn't call it a masterpiece and I am at the moment quite confused about it but thank you very much for the compliment :)
EDIT:
hmm I tried to upload a slightly overworked version but I still see the old one..I hope I didn't spam you guys with updates. Do they have to go through the approval process again or should it be updated automatically?

Natascha,
Stunning painting! The colors are wonderful (they dont say spring to me, but that is just me, I live in Florida, all we have is summer...) I totally got the cocoon symbolism before I read your post, brilliantly executed. Kudos to you for challenging your self on the posing. The jaws are a bit too square in the main image but they look better in the closeup?
Sorry it didnt get approved at Epilogue (their loss), with a little tweaking I think you should submit it for Exotique.
I only have one tiny suggestion: add a little of the light/glow coming around her right leg, its by her left leg but then it ends abruptly behind her.
I think this is your best yet.

That's lovely Natascha! I love the dynamism of it! Really great :) And the depth effects (like the petals etc) are awesome! I think it would need some refining on the shoulder-hands area but other than that it's simply beautiful :)

Hi Natascha, I saw this over on DA, beautiful painting. I love the colours and the sense of movement. I just noticed the comment about this not getting accepted over at epilogue, like Jose Pardo said, it's their loss. I don't understand them sometimes I have seen many paintings posted there that half the quality of this. They seem to be getting stricter...
Anyway, (long ramble...) Beautiful work can't wait to see your next painting!! :)

Jose Pardo:
Thank you very much. hehe as a matter of fact I was a bit puzzled at first when I started painting and picking colors. But it made all sense after a while. I was reminded again about some things from my childhood (mainly the chinese cherry trees and the mangolias in my parents garden). There is also another funny story I link to spring involving bubble gums and pinkish lilaish color schemes :D
I am really happy you got the cocoon. It was hell to paint and I can't really remember how many brush strokes I used to build up that thing >_<.
About Epi, I did the touchups (including reworking her face a bit and make it less "harsh") and they approved it on the second submission :). Makes me feel much better again.
I uploaded the new version here too but I guess it has to go through the approval again (god I uploaded several new versions..I hope they don't have to check all of them - I feel horrible about this >_<)
Not sure about exotique yet..there is still time and I somewhat feel I don't have pieces that would hold up to the title.
Also thank you very much for your pm. I try to work a bit more on it!
Blackeri: Marta thank you :) I already worked them a bit over. But the new image is not up here yet.
enialadam: It did get approved now. I guess they were right and in the end it was good to make me go over it again :) oh and I finally found time to answer your PM on DA
Thanks again for watching everyone and for the comments :heart

I have some trouble loading the entire image (the new one), but I think the hands do look better, with the stronger shadows.
(I can't believe Epilogue rejected this! Did they give a reason...? O_O )

Hey Linda :)
Problems with the one I linked? Too slow? I might have to reupload it @_@
Epi accepted it on the second try after I made some of the workovers. The first reason was that it needs more touchups which I afterwards did.

Oh sorry, I just read a later post where you said it's approved ^^
And it's probably my own ISP, been acting a bit funny with image loading, and generally being really slow. Tried clearing my cache and download it again, I can see it now :D Can I just add, I love the bigger version :)

Greetings Natascha! I can see what you mean when you mentioned that you are being confused a bit about this painting. I meant no offense. I don't see Spring as purple coloured. Purple seems to be more suitable for Autumn or Winter. Spring's colours, to me, are like cool blue, pale yellow and fresh green. But I can't quite give a true opinion about this because Malaysia has no seasons, except being hot, humid, and rainy, so I do not have firsthand experience about seasons, except from what I see at the movies or pictures!
The lady's hands appear to be a little flat because it is in the same tone with her shoulders and her chest. Her pose is a little cliched as well. The flowers are nicely done! I think if she is surrounded with lots more of those cherry blossoms, it'll be really cool!

Lovely Tascha! I think the overworks tighten up those little details excellently! :) Wonderful depth of field as well. What seasons are left now...? Summer?

Nice as always Kyena
i don't know if this is just me but her head a bit wide from the bottom:)

Yes it used to be quite square.
For some reason I never was able to update with the current version on the first page of this thread. I linked the current version some comments before this.
The hands are redone and I also fixed and cleaned up her face and other things.
