The only thing that bothers me is the position of the gun hand. It seems uncomfortable to hold the gun like that. If you rotated the gun hand so that the butt of the gun is pointing more towards the camera, I think it would look more natural.

The way the image is cropped on the front page, I thought it was a monkey comitting suicide. Maybe it has to do with the way the gun is posed right now. I think if it was turned it might read differently.

My only crit for this is that the saturation of the suit doesn't seem to match the saturation of the chimp fur. Pretty minor, i love the detail and the gun material is really well done!

First of all I must say this is a wonderful piece of work.

Some ideas for improvements:
1) Give the tie some texture like small dots or something.
2) Add a button to the collar of the shirt.
3) Add a pocket to the shirt (should be mostly hidden by the black coat but some of it around the corner should be seen).

i think i cropped the one that is in post 1 poorly. the shapes sit funny on the "canvas". some help from the cgtalk gods to swap it out would be greatly appreciated.

-on realism: if i was filling out a questionaire that asked what catagory i was going for "realistic", "cartoony", etc i would check "other". i'm not going for realism - just something with "real" depth. :)

The only thing I can see that would make it even better would be to slightly darken the area of the gun where his fore and middle finger meet, the trigger guard and magazine release...it seems a bit too bright, and I would think that the fingers would cast a contact shadow on it, like something that would be handled with ambient occlusion...

I love this picture, the more I look at it the more I want a tuxedo wearing chimp with a huge handgun.
The eyes are what make this piece what it is, they really are intense looking and the texture work on the skin is top notch. Got to love the hair as well, overall excellent job this is one of my most favorite pieces I've seen.

Zbrush 2 is just that good. Amazing you might add. Your testemony proves just that. It puts the artist back in 3D. With Zbrush2 you become an artist, not a modeler. I love it.

I think you could "animate" a little bit this scene, not just a chimp showing his gun!

I atually first viewed this piece when you posted it at ZBrush central. I'm really new to ZBrush (just posted my first creation today actually) And to be honest, this is one of the images I viewed at ZBC which got me interested and hooked.

Everything, from the textures to the expression on the chimps face are just amazing. I can only wish to have this much ability >.< Amazing work man! You're my idol lol.

thanks for all the great comments. it's a little later than i hoped but i posted some wires etc here (http://www.mattcioffi.com/samples/gangstaChimp.htm) - the top image is the final and it addresses the "i'm gonna shoot myself" thing. also i set up a cafepress page here (http://www.cafepress.com/gangstaChimp) with a higherrez version where you can get t-shirts and or posters of the beloved chimp(or man-ape if you wish, but mangrove is completely unexeptable)

there were some questions regarding the underlying meaning of the picture. it's really open to interpretation and i would much rather hear your idea than impose one on you. that is definitly one of the fun parts for me. if the image stirs up your noodle a little then i'm happy.

the concept come from my head.

at 2k rez without any optimizing i was getting about 20-30min renders:eek: . i made a DV rez turntable for something and did some optimizing and i got the the rt down to ~3-4mins.

WOW! I love how it looks photo real yet you know it's not because of the content of the image. I wish I knew how your rendering setup was for that. These are the best renderings I can do but they don't even come close to that in being photo real.
