This is another "Tales of Alvin Maker" avatar character for the mmo by egenesis. The character is concepted, modeled, and will be textured by myself.
I'm posting this one much earlier for critiquing purposes.
The prior character I made was a native american, which can be found here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=254517&page=2) .

crit or suggest away. =)

i've made a lot of ground on this model, i just havent posted progress because nobody posted on it at all. it's now 6,640 tris, fully UV'ed and will be textured fairly soon. most likely i will start texturing this one after i model my next project, which will be a horse.

any constructive crits welcome. dont be afraid. =P

At first glance it seems to me that you've mirrored a lot of her folds. I think it would be better if you took a few out on one side and put them somewhere else her clothes to give her a bit of assymetry. Might wanna look at giving her a bit of a smoother transition on her face around the forehead and cheek area. Her hands also need a little attention I think the thumb to finger ratio is off a touch lengthwise.

Looking at your poly count and the model there appear to be quite a few polys in places that could be done with texture, the midriff, under the hat, even bits in the ear. If you can optimize the model you could use those polys elsewhere. Keep at it my man. Hope it helped.

yeah, i definitely got busted on the folds. the ones on the arms will be the same(they share the same texture space, but the ones on the front apron will soon be different. my limit is actually 8000 tris this time around, so i have quite a bit to work with yet if i need it. id like to avoid using the entire amount if possible for performance issues, but i have them if i need them.

i agree about the thumbs in the shot, ill have to look and see if its the view that i rendered at. i dont remember making them that stubby. ill also look into smoothing the face/forehead transition over very soon. thanks for taking a look.
texturing coming soon. :D

i actually wont be able to touch this for a while. i have to model an altar and then a photoreal horse. ill see if i can get permission to post the horse up, if not, just check back here periodically.

Don't know if it's too late to bring this up, or if it's applicable to your purpose, but any woman of the time period (rich or poor) would be wearing a lot more undergarments, and have a less natural shape. Even the poorest woman would wear a shift, stays, and petticoats. Hope I'm not wasting your time with unneccesary details, but I thought I'd give you this stuff in case it's useful. Here's a couple of great photo of stays, front then back.

They would be worn over the shift, and under the petticoat (which may or may not be visible under a divided skirt),skirt and bodice. You can see that the breasts would not droop at all and would actually be pushed up with a stiff front.
Here's some pictures of a servant costume. They're from the Fort Louisbourg National Historic Site (http://fortress.uccb.ns.ca/behind/cost.html), which is Canadian, but would be much the same. The natural shape of the hips and legs is obscured by all the undergarments.

There's lot's of great info at the Colonial Williamsburg site (http://www.history.org/history/clothing/women/wglossary.cfm), including a clothing glossary with details.
Here's a shift, petticoat, and side view of a woman wearing stays.

Just what you want to hear when you've finished modelling, huh?:)

man, where were you guys like a year ago...when i asked for the help =P

i did wind up changing the forehead - it was huge. she could smash rocks and small children, a little known ability of colonial women.

the outfit ref. link is much apprectiated. i would like to retouch it for my own purposes, and eventually will.

thanks argal & XepptizZ.

nice, good to see something different these days. one thing that is really bugging me is the poly formation at the far corners of her eyes, the 2 polys have been "kited" out there should be another poly in between themso the corners of the eyes are squared, not come to a point, helps with deformation and animation. looks badass though!
