View Full Version : bump is not rendering
Why is my bumpmap not rendering on pumpkin? On the sphere everything is ok. The pumpkin was modelled out of sphere and then meshsmoothed. The holes were made with booleans (Power Booleans). Then everything was collapsed to poly.
Moddeled in 3DSmax5.
Any ideasa?

Have you applied any UVW coordinates to the object? Try assigning a UVW Map modifier set to Spherical Mapping and re-render.
I applied spherical mapping befor collapsing to poly. But anyway, this is procedural bump (noise), so uwv coordinates aren't needed. ??

im more of a see the problem kinda guy
if ya wanna posta link to download your scene ill be happy to take a look and see if i can fix it
try scaling the bump, it could be the size of the noise is very large in comparison to the pumpkin....
No it's not that. I tried everything. The weirdest thing is, that bitmaps can give bump, procedurals except checker can't.
Oh and this is not problem for bump only. It doesn't affect all other channels also.
Ill try to upload scene somewhere, any ideas where to upload?
Ok if anyone is willing to help, I have uploaded compresed scene h**p://www.lklemenc.150m.com/helloween.zip
(sorry for not sending direct link but my webspace provider does not allow hotlinking)

ok sorry i been outa town for a bit so this may be to late
i looked at your file and all you need to do is adjust the scale of the bump map for the pumkin
set the size to 0.002
you will have to make a copy of the material and name it orange and reaply it to the orange
then name the other to pumkin(should always name your materials)
the orange size is fine at.5 but set pumkin to .002 and it should be fine

Hey thanks!!:)
But I don't get it: isn't this noise procedural bump supposed to look the same size on any object apllied? Hence the sphere, where bump is rendered normally.
depends of the size of your object also !!!
if you didn't reset xform your object after a huge scale for example...
this can be a problem for example:
if you're doing textures on an object in a different project, then U merge it in your scene, and realize it's really big or really small, so U need to rescale, then you may need to modify your textures

halo... maybe you should try harder.:)
Well nothing was imported or merged, in fact I used reset xform on pumpkin although it was not scaled or anything. This bump size was really strange to me because I created a bunch of different sized objects (teapots, cubes,toruses,...) and the bump size was the same on everyone, except this pumpkin. Isn't that strange? Maybe a bug or something. Maybe because of Power Booleans use..
try scaling the bump, it could be the size of the noise is very large in comparison to the pumpkin....
