On softimage site, isn't really clear if XSI version 5(fnd) can run on Windows 2000 (sp 4), does anyone know for sure if it does, cause it would mean no upgrade to ver 5 and sticking with 4.2(fnd) which is a shame due to the great new features and added ones that version 5(fnd) is offering.

A lot of software just runs only on XP SP2 these days, so you might have to upgrade your OS finally ;)

Oh... and if I check the website, i only find links to XP PRo or Linux. Sounds like an update to me if you want to work with v5.

sorry,

Officialy WinXP Sp2 is the only "Windows" supported.
But it run fine under Win2k.
I think they just aren't testing it any more

I know 4.2 runs fine for me under Win2K. Do you have some first-hand knowledge of 5.0 running on Win2K, Asgorath? If so, that would be cool news for me as well.

I was told at the XSI Siggraph booth that there is no apparent reason why it should not run under Win2k, but there might not have official support for it.
At this point we only can wait, and pray for it >_>

the OS thing is the -OFFICIAL- support, as the more HW and OS are adopted, replaced and the more of it there is, the harder it gets to do active and PROPER support for one, including issue tracking and reproduction.

apparently v5 ran just fine on win2k for many people who betaed it though, and SI doesn't adverse win2k use, just cannot afford to endorse it anymore in the ever-expanding variety of OS used in production (their linux support is much wider and bigger, and THAT is harder and more resource consuming to support).

it's pretty normal that old things get out of the testbed after 5 years, but that doesn't mean that XSI won't run on it.
