Hi everyone, in which way can I animate some color stripes? I've tried the serpent plugin but it is limited to one axis at the time. Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure what your trying to do...

I want to animate color bands, like a rainbow...growing, bending, rippling...that kind of things.

Have you tried to draw your color map make any planar or cylindrical projection place it using a null as reference object. Move the null and the color stripes will move accordingly.

use edge transparency, make a morph target and use the splinecontrol displacement tool in layout.

quick and dirty (http://www.human2.com/perry/rainbow2.mov)

telamon, I'll try your suggestion.
pdrake, I can't see the movie, maybe some lost codec?
I think that there should be a better way to animate this sort of things. Serpent is quite limited... if only we could animate points in layout, instead of using predefined morphs...however, morphs are a cleaner way to work.
I made a test the other day, building the entire "path" of the color bands, and then using a white plane to hide the geometry from the camera. In this way I can animate the plane and reveal any geometry and make it look like a moving color band. It's just that it's a quite primitive way of working. thanks folks.

sorry, it's a quicktime codec.

if you mean something like a ribbon, then the spline deform tool is the easiest way.

make a long ribbon like poly with lots of segments, make a new morph target, stretch the ribbon down to almost zero.

bring that into layout, add the spline control deformation, add the morph and go to spline control in "utilities", i think. this will allow you to move the points to your desired path. then apply your morph. the ribbon will stretch out along the path.

Theres a free plugin called shift spline transform. Based on tests it looks to be the most powerful of the spline deformers.

Thanks, I've found it here, in japanese.
