how can i render a scene without to start xsi?
it often crashes during rendering a sequence and i thought i could probably render it via the commandline & ray3.exe.

it would be very nice if someone could give me a suggestion asap.

thanks alot

This is the non-GUI rendering mode (batch mode).

ray3.exe is the standalone mode, and requires a special licensing (mentral ray standalone or Batch Universal I think). It is mostly used to render mi files.

When you say the "xsibatch.exe", are you meaning the shortcut on the desktop?

If all your render options in the scene are right, it should work. Just make sure that you don't drop the scene onto a XSI command prompt, wich is different from the batch shortcut.

Hope this helps

to be honest. after the first installation i deleted the xsibatch shortcut (thought i wouldnt need it or i would then create a new shortcut again). but isnt it the same to either use the original exe or make a new shortcut?

Deleting the batch shortcut was an error. Next time you install XSI, don't do that.

So for now, try this:
Go into the Start menu folder where the XSI Command Prompt shortcut is. Open this folder, you can see the shortcuts as a file.
Copy the command prompt shortcut on your desktop, and give it a name like Batch or anything you like.
On this shortcut (the one on the desktop), right-click on it and choose Properties.
In the Target field, enter this text:
C:\Softimage\XSI_3.0\Application\bin\scriptxsi.bat
Click ok.

Now if you drag and drop a scene onto this shortcut, it should work.

Hope this helps
