View Full Version : 3D Studio 4.2 view port problem
pixelblur 10-31-2002, 03:52 AM Hey, I must have clicked a setting somewhere in Max that makes my viewport do something I didnt desire to do.
If i use the arc rotate, or pan features to manipulate my view port
my model disappears and i'm left with a box outline as I try to rotate it - then when im done rotating it, my model comes back - where can I turn this feature off ?
any help is appreciated (im fairly "newbie" to max)
thanks

There once was a thread in here asking for FAQ type questions, I didn't think of any at the time, but wow, this one gotta be the grand ol' daddy of questions.
Pixelblur, press "o" (the letter, not zero :)). What it does is toggle "Degradation Override" on and off. It's a feature that's.. er.. never handy heh. It's there so you can rotate and move around the viewport and avoid slowdowns, as MAX supposedly will simplify objects to draw faster. In real life it just turns your objects into boxes though :)
At any rate, it's a question often asked, and quickly solved. I don't know about everyone else, but to this day I still accidentally turn it on from time to time... actually... I'll go unbind that key right now. Something I should've done a long time ago :)

god damn it was driving me nuts :)
and yea, having a FAQ would be sweet so newbs like myself would annoy everyone with the same questions over and over.
thanks for taking the time to respond tho, very much appreciated
