It's the hide/unhide command in the poly menu. I think you must be in poly mode (not available in edge or vertax mode)

usually you can hide in any mode, at least you can with edit poly.
Hey buddy
try the "isolate function" in max, it really rocks...
(Help - Reference)
Keep it up

i checked in max under "help menu>user reference" and then under index AND search, i typed in isolate function. they both returned nothing.
im not exactly sure what this is that you are showing me. Does it act in any way difrent to hiding the polies? thanks for the help btw. sorry if i am totally hopeless:scream:
HAHAHA!!! REally??
I needed 3 secs to find it.
Help --> User Reference : Type in ISOLATE than the first topic
ISOLATE SELECTION FUNCTION.
Check it out buddy, its really really handy in my view.
I always use this when modeling and the scene gets too complicated.
Give it a try...

right click on viewport - isolate selection
Yes it rocks, but only works for whole objects. I think you want to hide parts of an object, so you just have to play whith hide/unhide.

 hahahah.. u picked the long way to tell me something didnt you! that just hides objects, which you can actually do in many ways.... just select everything else, right click and hide, or you can right click and choose isolate selection, or u can press alt+q or you can ....... lol
thanks all the same for your time... haha and u thought i was funny
