hi all

I ve used the search function for this forum and i believe i ve found the cause of my problem.. but not the solution. ok here goes..

I ve modeled a head and obviously have done this initially by doing half and then flipping both the model and uvw's etc

( xform has been reset )

I ve been doing some tests and stuff with mental ray and subsurface scattering and noticed some odd results with the bump maps..

What im getting is like it will bump on one face and then on the next it won t. Imagine looking at a mesh with the normals facing in different directions and how some faces would be see through and others not. Thats the kinda thing thats happening to the bump map ( except not see through, just smooth. It works fine rendered with scanline though, its only mental ray )

I did a test- applied a hack planar set of uv's to the model and the bump comes accross fine.
sooo what i need is a way of collapsing the stack or resetting the "xform" for the uvw's of a model

i ve tried exporting and importing as both .3ds and .obj but the problem persists

have tried removing uv's and loading back a saved version-- doesnt work

have tried everything with the letters UVW in the modifier stack :)

the ultimate fall back solution is to re map the uv's completely. But thats not something im inclined to do without investigating every other possible solution

any ideas?

thanks in advance
