View Full Version : ribbon smoke effects with dynamics?

Is it possible to create effects like this with fluid effects or particles that are fully dynamic and animatable? I've been trying to achieve the same effect by using 1000's of point particles, which sort of works, but it is not smooth. I am trying to delve into fluid effects to figure if it can do this, but am somewhat of a noob with fluid effects. So if you know of any way possible to do this effect dynamically, could you please point me in the right direction of the technique? Or just give quick little overview?

Is there some way to define a surface like this through particle flow?

You can create this effect with some planes which are completely transparent with ramps assigned to the incandesance channel..

Then use non liner deformers to get the shape.. Works best with nurbs.. to get the really curvey shapes you may want to combine some soft body dynamic's..

Takes like 1second a frame to render to :)

thanks, that seems like it can would work... I was hoping to do it with particles, but I guess this will have to do. Cloth seems like it could work too... But how do contrainst vertexes on a soft body or a cloth object that don't get affected by an air field???
