I'll take a shot, but hopefully Marek or someone with messiah in fornt of them will jump in...

Select all the things you want to have visible for animation.
Make a group.
Switch to animation mode (the tab up top) and select this group from the drop-down visibility bar at the top of the item list.

Voila! (I hope.)
