View Full Version : How do I use Messiah with Cinema4D?
Leonardo Vega 08-05-2005, 04:33 AM I own Cinema4D R8.2 and I would like to try out Messiah. But I can't find any info or tutorials on intergrating Messiah with Cinema 4D. Do I make the bones in C4D?
Thanks guys! :D

Christopher:
Hi Peter,
the 'MDD reader' plug-in and the messiah<->C4D connection are two
different things.
1. To use the messiah<->C4D connection, you have to use either
messiah:animate ore messiah:studio Professional. messiah:studio
Workstation does NOT offer a connetion. You setup a connection like this:
- Move the messiah plugins to the C4D plugins folder.
- Start C4D.
- In C4D, attach a messiah tag to the polygon object that you want to
deform.
- Create a messiah deformer object and make it the child of the
polygon object.
- Startup messiah from C4D with the corresponding command from the C4D
'plugins' menu. This should launch messiah.
Now you can start animating in messiah. These steps are also covered
in the docs. There are are few issues with the connection such as
items disappearing in C4D/messiah or other items appearing out of
nowhere. There were some discussion in the CGTalk forum about this,
have a search there.
2. The 'MDD Reader' plug-in is a way to use MDD files within C4D. You
do the following steps:
- Create your polygon objects in C4D.
- Use the free Riptide plug-in to export these objects in .obj format
(the native C4D .obj exporter is a bit borked)
- Launch messiah.
- Bring in your objects (in .obj format) and create a cool animation.
- Export the animation with the free PointOven Lite or the commercial
Point Oven Pro from Mark Wilson, available at www.ef9.com (http://www.ef9.com/) .
- In C4D, create an 'MDD Reader' object and make it the child of your
C4D object and set the appropriate MDD file name.
- Now the object should deform accordingly, possible you have to use
the 'Play' button in C4D to update the screen.
Using MDD files has the advantage that you don't have to have both
apps running at the same time (though you can do that). MDD files can
be quite large (several megabytes, depending on the size of your model
and the length of the animation). Also make sure that the point count
of your object in C4D and in messiah matches exactly, otherwise 'MDD
Reader' won't work properly. Since C4D and messiah use a different
default size, it makes sense to parent your objects to nulls that you
can use for scaling.
Hope that helps
Christopher

Don't dispair, they exchanged it for a demo of messiah:Studio!

So now you can play around with the render features too...

According to a previous post, messiah:studio workstation has no connection with C4D, right?

We are getting ready to release the latest version of m:s workstation. When the 2.2b release of workstation is made available the connection plugins will be included. We have been quite busy with Siggraph and the CGCHAR @ Siggraph event that we sponsored. I will let you know as soon as the release is made available. You will be able to download the update from our website.
