View Full Version : Start here: Free moving IK Goal?

It looks like I'm currently doomed to posting text in the CG forums.
Hope it's OK :D

Well as a complete Messiah newbie I've started the documentation.
In the beginning there's a "Start here" section?
In there, one little detail seems to keep eluding me.

The animations seem to be hinting that if you select an
IK goal with the middle mouse you should be able to move it in all axis
freely (X or Y or Z) ?
Somehow I can't figure out how to achieve this?

I don't know if it's related, but the IK Goal in the T-Rex lazy scene has the message
"IK is off for this end effector". Anyone please?
I've still managed to do the animation.
I'm awed by the quality of the rigging available :D

I just got the demo and have to say it had been a long time since I got excited by a CG app.
I haven't found any of the bugs some people keep advertising?
Also Messiah seems to hold up very well to it's excellent documentation.
It does seem like an app written by animators?
Can I just give it 5 kudos for now? :D

Another thing, the demo in my system gives the status line message
"C:\rad_test\' does not exist on this system..." when it loads the lazy animator file for the first time.
Ignoring this message seems to be the thing to do.
Is there any further information on it though? Is it relevant at all?

Spin99, your problem lies with the edit sphere. It's probably the most common stumbling block that us noobs encounter. First, make sure you are using "Original Coordinates" (coords button at bottom right of viewport...click it until you see "using original coordinates" in the message window). Then, select an axis on the the outer circle of the edit sphere, it should become highlighted. Then select the center "M" manipulator which should also become highlighted. Now you can move the edit sphere more freely.

The documentation is excellent until you really start digging for info. Then you'll find it is out-dated. It doesn't contain any info on a lot of Messiah's newer features. If you get into scripting and/or the sdk you'll find the docs to be incomplete as well. However, I know for a fact that the Messiah gents are working on updating the docs.

Like 99% of all apps, Messiah is not without its quirks and idiosyncrasies...but it really does rock the Casbah when you get down to it.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I managed to do it by changing the coordinate settings :)

I wonder if the docs have been updated on the latest demo?
I'm still dubstruck at the realism Messiah rigs seem to create off the box.

So file not found messages at the status bar are for ignoring?
Maybe they're related to the system where the project samples were created
and don't seem to affect anything :)
