View Full Version : First 3D Scene
roge12576 10-30-2002, 02:24 PM Hello members, I decided to submit a finished piece as my first post. I've been at this for a little over a month and this is my first completed work. Any critiques or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)

Like it Rogel but would like to see the walls in old brick i think this would create a more moody atmosphrere and also a damp reflection of the walls would be geat:)

The bricks were something I really wanted to give more attention to. Any tips on how to better texture the walls? I would also like to get rid of the unusually large bumps.

What were you rendering with? Some programs like Maya have a filter setting for textures that by default may be set too high and casue large or soft looking bumps as you have here.

The renderer in 3D Studio Max. Is it possible that I made the bump maps too large?

No I don't think there ar etoo large.. for example on the walkways I can see pixellation indicating that the maps are too small.
I don't know Max very well or at all really but I can only guess that there is some sort of filter or blur function somewhere that you can adjust to make the bumps sharper. You could also try lessening the intensity of th ebump but again I don't know if Max has a magnitude parameter for bumps or if it's just base dont hej luminance vlaues of the map itself. How big ar eyour maps BTW?

Well the maps for the walls are all 500x400 with the exception of the underlying brick bump maps. I tiled a 200x200 brick map and mixed it with a small amount of noise. You may be right about the blurring. i have no idea what the numbers in the filters mean yet so maybe I could just fiddle around and see what happens. Thanks a bunch.
Rogel are you a member at www.3dbuzz.com if not point your browser to it and you get free traing and a brilliant site, of freindly and very helpful people not to mention free C-Ds of traing on 3D Max I'm not good enough yet to give advice ,but one day with the help of Buzz i hope to ......... oh i forgot to say he also pays the postage to your door and try as you may he will not take any money Abe
