All these parts were chosen by me after doing extensive research on many forums (including this one) and hardware sites (including Tom's Hardware and Anandtech). I knew my budget was around $1,000 at first, but I managed to fork another couple hundred dollars (sold some things to friends and family). What do you guys think?

Why the firewire card?
Because if I ever want to get an external hard drive to backup my stuff, I want to get one with a FireWire connection since the transfer rate is better than the USB.

Well if it's ordered, can't change much can you ;)

I think it's a nice and well rounded config you got there.

on the firewire... USB2 is almost as fast as firewire and is backward compatible with USB1. there is like 100x more USB ports everywhere than Firewire. if you need for some reason to get to a data out of this ext. HDD NOW and your only option is your sister's 3 years old computer with a signle USB1 slot, you cna get it out....
