View Full Version : Selection proxy for another object
Soludos 10-30-2002, 01:31 PM Hello all, having a problem hope somebody can help. :hmm: :hmm:
Can I have a single object in XSI which acts as a selection proxy for another object/s within the same scene?
EG
I select an object which sits on the outside of a characters envelope which in turn selects a rig within the envelope and deselect it self. So at the end you have control of just the rig and not the original object.
I don't wish to use layers, Synoptic, group selections or buttons out side the scene view, if you get my drift.

Why dont you use the synoptic view to do this..... It's prety fast and more or less it does what you ask for...

Not sure if I get the question right, here it goes.
Back when I was using Softimage 3D, after I done setting up the bone rigs (basically every joints that will be moved/rotated for animating are constrained with nodes). Then I just create a curve shape (anything you want as long as it's made of lines so it won't be rendered) set as the parent of that constrained node. Toggle anything you don't want to touch by turn off their selectability, then you're done. All you have to do now is branch select that curve shape you created (keyword: branch select!), and you can animate your rig without even touch the origianl objects/bones/nodes.
I've just read what I wrote above, I left alot of things out (basically the whole contraint part). So if you're confused, it's okay :p If you get it, wow
I'd suggest use synoptic too, just because from what I saw on XSI Fundamental video I bought, it's much easier and it got a lot more features.
