Hi!

Here is an illustration I made over an old sketch, a few days ago. I was trying a different style, and I'm not sure about the final result.

What do you think? :wip:

I need crits, please! :)

Regards.

Daniel.

No, I haven't seen the ridge racer stuff, but I would love to! :)

Here is the original sketch. It's some years old.

since trying to build my own studios, i have tried to learn to do it. does anybody know any good tutorials on this subject? on coloring in general that is.

IMO it would look better without the wierd anime elf ears and typical button eyes. I'm not a real big fan of the anime genre, so you can ignore my opinion if this is what you like to draw. This is a really good illustration, but the head just ruins the whole thing for me. The hands need a little bit of work too. Usually when someone leans on something like this the hand would lay flat. The bend in the fingers looks unnatural.

Thanks for the replies!!

First of all, I have updated the illustration, with smoother lines.

Sir_jet: I coloured with photoshop. I used only a solid brush, in different sizes, and didn't worked the detailes, so they have dissapeared.

Kirt: That are the crits I like! :) I also thought that the head was a little strange. I don't like very much the eyes, but the style is what I wanted to draw.
The hands, I thought that if she was sitting in the car, (not really sitting, but resting on it), the hands wouldn't need that pressure. But perhaps you are true and a little more is needed.

I took the ears away for you :D Perhaps it's better that way?

Hmmm ... yes, now that I'm not distracted by the elf ears I can take a closer look at it. There is something really weird going on with the arms and the way she's leaning up against (or onto) the car. It's a little confusing.

The hands are placed about 1/3 up the hood of the car and her waist is pretty much in the same area ... which would suggest that she's actually sitting on the hood of the car. Yet, the horizontal line at the end of her dress and lack of foreshortening of the legs suggest that she is standing in front of the car.

So, the bend in the fingers depends on how she's positioning her weight. If she's standing (but leaning into her arms) then I would think that the hands would be flat. But if she's sitting, then I can see where she could be relaxed in her hands. (I hope this makes sense)

Also, I think it might give her a little bit more alure and mystery if you were to have her looking off to the side. Having her look directly into the viewer's eyes is very inviting.

But ... then again ... that might be your intent. :D

i won't crit, but i'll comment :) i like her much better without the ears.. they seemed a bit out of place in the theme. i like the effect that you were able to get with photoshop.. it's nice and soft, and i can't seem to do that in PS, so i switched to painter :p

i would love to see some more colors on her dress too! ;)

This reminds me a lot of acrylic paints. I agree about the arms, something in the shadows just doesn't seem right, maybe they're to harsh there? I like the colours but the green background colour looks a little too muddy to me. Although it looks to me like you wanted the tinted colours I almost think you should bump up the saturation, but I'm not sure. I like it though. Reminds me a lot of acrylic paints and so it doesn't look digital to me at all.

Indeed a little arm crit, the way the bones are configured in her right arm, you'd expect her hand to be top down or resting on the side, instead it's bottom down.. maybe increasing the size of the highlight will change the way the bones are in her arm..
