View Full Version : recovering file ?
howdy folks !
i have a problem, i just lost a file and i really don't know why... soft did not crash on this file, neither did my comp at any time when working on this file, it's actually a pretty simple poly model and today it just won't open or merge, says it fails to open it...
i'm rather ggrrrrrrrrrrr now that i have to remodel it, not that it will take that much time, but geez !!!
has anyone any idea to recover this file ?
tia !

I think he meant software, not softimage.
I had the same problem today, only my MAX keeps on crashing, so i'm very interested to see if i can get my file back too.
LOL i did not think about that, sorry, yes i meant software and not Softimage
Yep i'd like to know if such a file can be recovered, though i'm quite sure it's lost now, but for once i really have no idea of what happened, as said neither Max nor my comp had any crash, i worked on this file sunday, did not try to open it until today...
usually corrupted files can be merged into a new one, at least objects, and you can then recover materials too, but this one is just dead it seems....
arg, worst thing is that i had created a increment saved file accidentaly (finger slipped from a key to another), and deleted it thinking i would not need it !!!
(the last render i could manage with this file:

yeah well...

Depending on a few variables ( option settings ) is it possible you have a copy in your backup directory?
well indeed but i thinks this happens only at times Max is crashing, say, in a "normal" way (i guess it has to do with memory issues and stuff like that ?), and in those cases Max warns you that it has saved an autoback file...
unfortunately not my case :annoyed:
but it's ok by the time i find a way to recover the file (if any exists) i'll have the whole thing remodelled
thanks anyhow

Have you checked your "autoback" folder and its .mx files?
Check there...Hope you had your autoback turned on...
Its been a huge lifesaver for me....
Quick...go look!
Thanks a lot CactusJack ! (and everyone)
i just checked my autoback again, in fact 3 files were other autoback files, but that one MaxBack.bak was my dead file !!
Well i don't know what happened but i'm very happy !!:D
btw i took time to set up my autoback
