View Full Version : .c3d converter or utility [HELP!]
Toby W. Allen 08-02-2005, 06:56 PM Hi,
I've just been doing a session of mocap for the Game Development Society in Leeds, UK; as we're working on our Ninjasticks game.
Using Qualysis, which is what the University had, we can only output to matlab and .c3d, therefore, I was wondering if anyone knew of any easy way or remotely easy way to get these into 3DS Max or Maya. Either is great, but it's a pain already with the lack of documentation on the .c3d part, which I didn't realise.
Any comments or ideas is much appreciated!
Thanks again,
Toby W. Allen

You need motionbuilder pro to import c3d. Then you map the markers to the actor figure, and finally transfer the data to your character rig. I don't believe max can import c3d (don't know about maya). If you can get the data into max you could possibly setup a system of constraints to get the motion onto your rig. Maybe you can find someone with mb pro to help you out.

If you are programming-friendly, it's relatively easy to write a tool that converts .c3d data into .csm. However, the data results I got using .csm leaves much to be desired and you are better off working with .bvh inside of Biped.

Thanks for the help on this - I'm using motionbuilder to import it and work with it. It doesn't seem to like my data, as for exmaple if I link up the actor to have only the top half nodes, it doesn't do anything.
Additionally, once I've attached the data to the actor and characterised it, it doesn't move with the nodes. The nodes move but the model doesn't. I'll try and get some data up here to show you.
If anyone can point me to any good tutorials, that would be really nice.
Thanks for the help,
Toby.

Right I'm persuing my research into this... for those that want to try with my data - Combat_Final0105.zip (http://www.gdsleeds.com/mantis/file_download.php?file_id=105&type=bug)
Thanks,
Toby.
