****Original Post****

Hi all,

I was joining a contest at the 3dgamestudio forum and I had to make a Fantasy character.
I called it Rio and tried to give him a serious dark type of character

turned out like this:

i think the main thing to look at would be the anatomy in the profile. the human spine curves in a s-shape and your models spine is very rigid also the belt area in proflie looks strange. it seems to cut into him more than it should
i also think you might be able to save some texture space. the dangly things look very similar and by using the same texture you could save a little space there.
because the face texture is practically symetrical i would personaly flip the UVs. for the parts of the face that are different i would break the UVs and move them off. i think that will make your texturing more eficient I am sure you can get this onto a couple of much smaller maps without sacrificing too much the quality of the texture.

@Dave_Hingley: Thx! will fix the things u mentioned. Also. I was only able to make 1 Map because the 3DGameStudio engine doesn't support multiple maps... and It should be 512x512 so I scale it down alot.
I used this space so I wouldn't get symetrical spots. mostly on the bodyparts.
the Face didn't need so much detail just yet. I was still working on the Head texture and the hair.
But I don't have that much experience in texturing faces so the colours look a little the same.
tried adding some veins and details but didn't work out.
I'd love to get some critics about that.

I like it but the proportions are alittle off, the head looks scrunched into the shoulders and is alittle too big. Gives it a kid or midget look. Depends on what you are going for. Other then that looking good.

thx you all.
I was happy that the belt was at the good place. also the length of the arms were fine. the head was a little to close to the shoulders indeed. Fixed that. I also changed spine curve as noticed by Dave_Hingley
I need to change the texture. (the belt and the hair)

He still totally looks like a midget. Your character is about 4.5 or 5 heads tall, your normal hero type character is 7 to 8 heads tall. You've got big (pardon the pun) proportion problems still! The texture I think is perfectly fine at this stage, but you have GOT to fix these proportion problems, they are making your character look really, really weird.

ok... I hope this one is better?

I made him a little taller and his spine is a s-curve like.
Although im just learning:D

I really like the model, and the texture is extrmely awesome, I always find painting leather fabric a hardest and u did a really good job on that. Keep up the good work!

Black is a really bad colour to render against especially in this case.

If you wanna maintain the goth look maybe a deep blood red?

Also I cant imagine you will get any decent deformation from the arms as there are no cuts for joints.

nice textue work.
