i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice in what i should put in a new pc i wanna build for school. in october, im goin to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Game Art and Design and would like a new pc to handle top-o-the line videogames and 2d/3d programs. the price range i want to stick to is between $700-$1000. its a kinda big gap but im not sure how much im gettin n i wanna get a monitor, keyboard n mouse w/ it so yeah...

im not askin for you to post the whole set up...just the names of the right kinda cpu, mobo, vid card...

thanks in advance.

You're really pushing it for top-o-the line videogames and 2d/3d programs

Athlon 64 3500 Venice - $267
DFI Lanparty (http://forums.heavengames.com/redir/http%3A//usa%2Easus%2Ecom/prog/spec%2Easp%3Fm%3DA8N%2DSLI%20Deluxe%26langs%3D09)SLI - $200
Corsair PC3200 DDR 1GB - $160
Geforce 6600 GT 256mb - $150 (Depends on brand...BFG has higher price, but lifetime warranty and it's OC'ed out of box)
Maxtor 200GB Serial ATA - $100 (Harddrive - any brand, size you want)
Antec Neopower 480 - $100
Mitsumi 54x32x54x - $30
Total : 1007

If you want a decent case, add around $100-$200 dollars to it. You can go for a cheaper motherboard/processor if you want. All price from Newegg I think...so you might find some parts cheaper at some places.

These're what I will also suggest but instead of
Athlon 64 3500 Venice - $267 buy an 3200+ Venice(190$) and overclock it,
DFI LanpartySLI - $200 is a good mobo but a bit expensive you can look for nForce3 or nForce4 mobos which are 105$ range.
And instead of Mitsumi 54x32x54x - $30 buy a NEC DVD-RW (near 60$)
HDD brand: just Seagate7200.8! not a Maxtor!

My choice would be for the MSI SLI board. It comes with onboard 7.1 24bit Soundblaster Live... A similar setup uisng an add in card would cost more than the price of the MSI board...

Just a thought.
