View Full Version : I don't draw. I drawr.
Indolent 10-29-2002, 05:14 PM Here's a portrait drawring I did with a .05 pencil and enough free time to do this for extra credit in a science class I was taking back in college. Such are the benefits of attending Art school. :buttrock:

Hey, thanks guy. Here's another one I did yesterday on a post-it note, in an effort to keep from getting bored. It worked.

Very interesting. What's the size of the original paper?
By the way... "drawring"? what's that??
Cheers

The original size of the 2nd "drawring" done on the post-it note is only about 3X3 inches. heh... "drawring" is how Mike Meyers used to pronounce it, on Saturday Night Live, when he did the Simon Skits. Not sure if you're familiar with that, what with you being from Spain, and all. It's a comedy show, here in the states.

Well, here's one that isn't a photo reference (obviously). Right outta me noggin. Personally, I think it sucks and I should be dragged out in the street and smacked for posting such filth!
Oh, by the way... C&C are welcome. :)

Thanks, man.
You should try post-it notes, sometime... They're severely underappreciated in the modern art world. They can be posted immediately!

nice work I love the hair.
I need to learn how to draw hair like that
got any tips?
Indolent

stunna: Hair is some hard stuff to draw and I, myself, have yet to learn alot about depicting it accurately on paper. What I've been doing, is just roughing out the darker areas of the hair, and then building the pencil strokes up, in the direction the hair is flowing. It's really just trial and error, because there are so many different textures in hair. I'm probably not the best person to ask, to be honest. :) I guess just try not to think of it as individual strands, and focus more on the overall shades. Once you get the shaded areas placed, random pencil strokes seem to do the trick. Sometimes I'll close one eye and look at the image, unfocused in the other eye, to help me see just the different shades, more two dimensionally, rather than all the the fine details. heh.. sorry for the thesis. I hope you found help in all that incoherence. :p Thanks for the reply.

Here's my latest portrait drawing, of myself, when I was a kid. Once again, drawn on a post-it note. I used the grid method, to maintain accurate proportions.

The original looks much clearer. The scanner I used isn't as high quality as I'd like it to be.

Hello, Indolent,
I knew your CG artwork from the DW forums, but I never gotto see your 2D artwork before and I´m really amazed at your talent.
Your portraits are my favorites, I love the classic feel to them.
More, please!! :)

TypeA: What can I say, you guys keep giving me this positive feedback, which in turn, gives me more incentive to pump this stuff out. I'm truly humbled that you like my stuff. Thanks.
Kamui: Yeah, I enjoy drawing the monsters more, too. It's more fun and I think it helps me develop more creativity and that's deffinitely something that needs to be more prevalent in my drawings. I still have a long way to go. Thanks, man. :)
PsychedelicMind: That reply was like sugar to me. :bounce: Look, I'm all hyper. I didn't do all of these on post-its, actually. The portraits, with the exception of Einstein, were drawn on Post-it. The monsters were done on regular size paper, although the 2nd monster I posted on here, was drawn small enough to fit on a post-it.
Eliseu: Dude, I've been equally, if not moreso amazed at your talent. The feeling is mutual and I'm very flattered that you admire my stuff. I've posted all of these on the DW forums, as well. More to come, my friend.
Piajartist: I agree. More monsters are in the works. ;) Thanks.
[msf]: Oh, how I love being hated. You're not the only person to harbor these feelings toward me and it seems that hatred for me is growing. A warm, fuzzy feeling, indeed.
I totally didn't expect this much feedback, guys. Thankyou. Here's a sketch that I started on, this time a guy with wings. I've decided that his fingers are in need of fixing, the outline of his mouth is gonna go bye-bye and his wings are gonna look different than how they do here, when I'm finished. I'm trying to decide whether I want to texture the hell outta this, or shade the hell out of it. What do you guys think I should do?
