View Full Version : Max - unwrapUVW - meshsmooth
DerPapa 10-29-2002, 03:17 PM Hi, mostly when I saw Characters modifierstack screenshot last time I noticed that many ppl working with the meshsmooth mod over the UVWmap, even over the skinning!
So I tried it this way and unwrapped a lowpoly mesh. but if you take a look at the pic, you'll see that meshsmooth distroys the mapping coords. (with checked "old style mapping", it becomes distroyed yet more)
How to handle that?

Put the UVWMap modifier above the meshsmooth.

hmmmm... thats weird. I've put the MS on top a lot and never had that problem. Maybe try and redo your mapping and have another go :shrug:

It's hard to tell because the edges aren't visible in the meshsmoothed one, but I'd reckon it's the effect meshsmooth is having on those 5-sided polys which is to blame. Tidy up the mesh a bit and the problem should dissappear.
Don't listen to Halo, putting anything above meshsmooth is asking for a world of pain later on (you'd have to Unwrap it above meshsmooth too, which wouldn't be fun at all).

mh, thanks for your replies so far, I think you are right Iain, seems 5+ corner polys would lead into the effect. The quad mesh area is quite ok.
Bit frustrating, cause I already did most of the unwrapping of this object :annoyed:
Unwrapping an already smoothed mesh is PITA!

John Stetzer from the discreet board helped me :)
there were 2 little vertices not welded in the Unwrapper. Now everything is fine!
visualboo, you are NO moron, you just doing better unwraps then me :p
