hmm hafta agree, I don't see anything that looks 10x better than mental ray. Has anyone tried this? It just looks GI Joey to me, is the gallery representative?

it looks very pleasant actually
The colors are brighter than mental ray(i am not saying its totally realistic, but its very pleasant short of CRT VS TFT), and produces very good animations with GI

Turtle can do 95% of MR in 3 mins , where MR additional 5% takes 30 mins
Additinoaly Turtle Motion Blur is stunning
Wanna talk about MR blur?
Didnt think so ;-)
You also have to understand that some people actually "animate" stuff and dont have the time to wait 2 hours per frame ?
You also need to be reminded that studios like Dreamworks utilized GI over low polygon models so they could have a usable GI.
Of course i doubt turtle is good enough for heavy production work but hey they are working on it !
And the integration with maya is "just right" btw

As a personal experience, having 3 projects done in Turtle i don't belive any render engine can be as Fast/ Good as Turtle for architectural animations.
On the other hand it's got the disadvantage of a limited shaders and 3rd party stuff unlink Mr which is full of it's own controllers.
As for quality it can in compete with Mr in a way but definitly when you can see your render result in 2 minutes instead of 15 it is a choice you don't want to loose.
