Hopefully, this will be the first of many meetings. We'll see what the turnout is like.

I'd like to have meetings like this every month, on the first Friday of the month.

Any ideas for topics you'd like to see covered?

I'll be there.(maybe I can even get my wife to come, Im trying to get her into 3d)

I would love to get an overview of Maya. I use Xsi and have been wondering about maya for a while now. I know its good.. But I love Xsi and need to see what the Maya rage is all about.

Just so everyone knows, we'll have a DVD player and VCR hooked up to an HDTV. I'll also have my computer patched into the same HDTV, so pretty much any computer format (Quicktime, AVI, etc), VHS, or DVD will be playable.

Bring whatever you want to show!

I won't know for sure until everyone's here, but I'm guessing around ten people will be here?

Very cool. It's open to all ages, so I hope we get a range of people. I talked to some high school students on Wednesday for a while about CG. We just bumped into eachother in Carbondale. I told them about the meeting. We'll see if they show up.

Hi Floyd! I'm in Columbus, OH, but we don't have enough folks around here to put anything together, so I was thinking about joining in with you all. I didn't find out about your event til yesterday, so unfortunately I can't come tonight. I really do want to try to arrange to come next time, so please keep us informed when you'll do it again.

By the way, I totally agreed with you on your opinion you posted regarding Goerge Lucas moving so many jobs to Singapore. Not that he doens't have the right, or shouldn't, but he could simply move it to somewhere the cost of living is much less in the USA. I had always wanted to go forth to California and get some experience and come back here and start my own studio. I see that you've already done that. So, I am interested in meeting you eventually and seeing if your studio may be a good place to work someday as I am "fairly" close. It's too long a drive for every month, but I could come to one meet and see how it goes.
It is good of you to do this sort of thing for the community!

Hey everyone,

The first meeting was a success! We had seven people there. Not a huge number, but not bad for a first meeting. We showed the modeler a bit, looked at some reels, watched some movie trailers and other stuff.

We also talked about how to make a pencil or pen draw a line in CG. While there are a few solutions, we pretty much settled on a solution I used once before, which is a particle emitter spitting out a pen shape (think Photoshop brushes).

If anyone is interested in that technique, maybe we could work up a tutorial.

Anyways, thanks to all those who showed up. If you couldn't make it, maybe we'll see you next time!

HA. I hope no one was out there banging on the door. I had a good time. It was a success.
Future meetings give me something to make sure I finish some work to bring along.
