View Full Version : Can one make the Fluid 2d Cigarette example 3D?
bjohnston 07-29-2005, 08:02 PM Hello,
I like the 2d fluid example of the cigarette, but need to make one in 3D. Is there an easy way to do this so that the look matches??

Is this a stupid question or as hard as I thought?

Try the particle string - make an emitter that shoots out a stream of particles marching in a row, you can make it so a curve gets drawn between the particles by checking out Nicolas DiHaussy's post,
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=193661
Once youve got a nice looking particle string you can copy the curve, bake it, run the sim with slightly different settings, bake THAT curve, and loft those curves together or however many curves it takes to get that weightless ribbony look. Here's an example

of course you gotta go a little silly on your particle settings, use pp radial fields, springs, all that fun stuff, this technique is also good for, of all things, simulating sillystring.
