It is almost the first time I put up a demo reel together, and I am ashamed of how many good works I lost for being easygoing... but I finally decided to put up what I had at hand to get some crits and comments. There is a lot of fluids as I've been deeply involved in the development of fluid simulators since many years ago.

some screencaps:

Cool! Nice work, I love the robot in the bay animation and the fluids effects!

Keep up the good work!

hi jesped really cool VFX reel.most of animation u have done in fluid simulation. my question is did u use glu3d for sea simulation effect? coz i m trying it but not getting success to simulate sea effect.in ur demoreel u see robot comes from the sea (at the begining) it makes splashes and waves in to the water.is that simulation really done using glu3d?...

i hope u will answer my question.and can understand.

the best fluid simulation effects :applause: i have never seen before.
5* from me.

i really like it too much.

jigu.

Hey Jigu, to get such effect use a animated displacement on the water surface (or maybe Dreamscape from Afterworks) and a pool of glu3D particles under the waterline. This way the splashes come out as the character emerges from the water.

hey jesped.....have u sent me a pm?...coz in my email it's showing that u sent me a pm.anyway i got ur idea about sticking particles to sea surface plane and than making simulation.i will try it and find out myself.and btw
one crit to ur demoreel. i think u should remove last shot of ur demoreel.coz it;s not looking much real.simulation and etc looks good.but underwater geometry doesn;t look real.that;s y.i hope u will fix it.

BTW i have made glu3d simulation for glu3d contest.which is i m gonna post on 3dalien's forum soon.it;s done using parrary and glu3d.now i can enter to the contest coz i used glu3d engine.

I was about to pm you but I finally put the explanation of the process in this thread :)

I thought you would know the guys at Realflow or be using their softwear, the CG scene in Spain cant be that big, sorry to sound like a geek but how much processing power did you have. Very nice all round reel.

Great work, man!!

This effects are very useful for movies and advertisement industries, and you are master of them. I'm sure some Fx studio will contact you when they see this reel.

Cheers!

Everytime I try to download it I get a 3MB file....with only the Robot getting out of the water...

I tried with flash get as well, but it sees the target as well as a 3MB file....

Am I the only one encountering this issue?

Hal.

Do you have a .mov version? I can't load the file here since you're probably using the latest codec.

Having the same problem as you Halford, but I get up to 8 megs.

Sorry I was updating the reel and you got it in the middle of the process. Try again as it should be ok now.

Tito: I used divx6 for enconding, isn't it compatible with mac systems? I thought it will be multiplatform and backwards compatible...

I'm uploading a quicktime version, will edit the post to put the link once it is uploaded as I am on a shitty 56k connection right now and it is taking some time for the upload.

This is just class man :) I really like the variety of situations where elements are added in, have you done commercial advertising/movie/tv work? The music seems to set a nice pace too, not overly dramatic but it keeps on kicking along ;) Haha the two fantasy chickas as stills intruige me...

Wonderful stuff, great job

Ed; Just to confirm, I was able to d/l the whole reel, so it should be working for others now I guess.

You're right, I worked at Next Limit for more than 3 years, until the company became more "marketing focused"

Those works where done in different times with different machines, but the processing power was at best a Barton 2800+.

Thanks for your comments. I've done some commercial works for tv and helped in some movies on the fluids part, which obviously is what I am best at for now.

The music theme is "Working on it" from Mark Knopfler's "Wag the dog" ost. Always a pleasure to hear

i almost applied for your old job a while back. Now i'm still thinking about moving to Lisbon (was offered a university job) do you know if theres much work coming out of Portugal? Nice solution- with glue under the displacement mapped water surface.

I really don't know about the Portugal CG scene, I suppose there will be a lot of work on arch viz. Maybe it is a good idea to ask portuguese cgtalkers about it?

Some nice liquid and fire simulations here.
I really like the robot coming out of the water at the beginning very much. My only crit about that shot is: the robot's body looked almost bone-dry, and there was no water drops trickling down his body as he was walking off. Other than that, It was a well done piece of work.

Very nice demoreel man !
Your fire simulation is really intresting, how did you do that ?
Wich software/plugin/render engine ?

Thanks. The fire simulation was done in 3dsmax using the Aura public test version. It was a slow process (and a bit tricky) to get the desired effect, but the software is great. Render was done with Vray.
