Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting any images on CGTalk or any website for that matter. I have been out of drawing for about 3 years now, having needed to get a "regular job" in order to pay the bills and such. I have missed art very much. A friend of mine told me about this site and I have been in the background watching for a few months now but reluctant to post.

This is my first DIGITAL image ever and my first image period in the last 3 years. I picked up Painter 9 since it was the cheapest program I could get hold of and I did the image in about 1 hour 20 minutes. I am going to try to keep posting daily so I might get some practice up and develop some skills. You are all very inspirational to me and I hope to become more of a regular here. I will probably stick to B/W images for a while until I get used to making art again.

Thanks everyone.

Don Diego: Wonderful style and linework. The Royal Chickens need a dragon. :buttrock:

yAdam: Great concept and perspective. Mr. Knight needs to pull up his oversized pants before his daring rescue.

doomdragon: :applause: Fantastic concept. Great colors and glowing rat eyes. The Princess must be scurrying in the sewer.

andrewley: A modern master. :applause: Congratulations on another well deserved Sketch of the Week. These pieces deserve more extensive work. Hopefully one day you'll find the time. Amazing talent. :bounce:

pipchu: Another modern master. Gorgeous work. For vector work. Your style with pixels is extraordinary, no matter how you choose to render. And that's some dirty dueling manuever. Hopefully the princess knows kung fu or has a match.

Slux: Beautful gore. Her prince wears a rug, and kills endagered species. Quite a catch. :applause:

danielh68: Rise, sir knight, and be king. A third modern master. Amazing Munsells :applause: And many thanks for your inspiring tutorials. You make it look and sound so easy . . .

rawwad: Great tone and value work. Clearly, steroids were popular even in the middle ages.

Reiner: Modern Master. Please please please post a tutorial on how to shade metal, as you've done with this sketch. It's gorgeous. The helmet design is outstanding.

Kitami: Light watercolors to offest heavy subject matter. Or a scene from Grand Theft Auto: Middle Ages. ;)

hagarun: Wonderful characters and shading. Eventually, of course, somebody always eats the mouse.

Ahmed Hosny: Nice subtle colors. Looks like the princess is gonna be eatin' lead. She must've been hard to find.

ashwin911: Great atmosphere and action. The black knight needs a hug. :bounce:

11th Door: Excellent decision and beautiful initial sketch. Also check out the Artistic Anatomy group, led by Rebekka K., and the Art Theory and Tutorials thread. These forums are loaded with activities to keep you drawing. Also, just to experiment with colors, just add another layer over your tone work in painter, and set its mode to Color or Colorize, then go crazy. It's liberating not having your initial work trounced by irrelevant colors. Again, great work.

Phew.

Inspiring series of sketches.

Ravioli, Thanks for the support and the hints in Painter. I have had the program for a week now but am totally gun-shy to use it. This was my first attempt and it was painful. I stuck to using the wet acrylic and pencil brushes for fear of overwhelming myself. I will try the colorize idea soon. Thanks again.

Welcome 11th door! Thats a very impressive sketch for a 3 year break, and with a new program! I would also suggest the tutorial threads, they're quite fantastic. And just keep experimenting with the different tools in painter. Listen to me, I sound like I think I'm an expert....

So many great sketches!

xitemx - Nice pose. I like your choices of colors in your works. I'd like to see a finish version of this one if you have time later on.:)
gomez21 - Is that a giant robot knight? Woulud be cool if we see a human figure in there(just wanna compare the sizes).:)
TheDagger - at first glance, I thought the knight and the horse was walking on the milky way.
keko - great work! Nice scent of speed and movement.
nuch - nice one. Maybe you can add a shadow of the figure the knight lady is looking at. Make it look more mysterious, I guess.
gullick - :D Look forward to see more!
Amadeus001 - I like the color scheme. The knight design is great!.
createmai - the brushstrokes for the flame is awesome.
Thany - love the atmosphere and the trees.
Octothreat - Cyborg knight?O_O
Novacaine - Very nice looking horse. Nice muscles. I had trouble with my horse's figure. The armor design is cool as well.
ravioli - I always look forward to read your comments.:D Your sketch is funny as usual. Maybe youu can add some light shining through the kilt. You know, add the holy effect.
The Holy Groin.
11th Door - That's an awesome figure! It's your first drawing in 3 years, but it looks very good. Hope to see more of your sketches.:)
ashwin911 - that's very quick! Cool gestures. The sketch tells the story very well.
Ahmed - That's a unique idea.
hakurun - Your sketch looks like something from a fairytale or a children's book. The hippo creaure has beautiful eyes!
kitami - Cool idea. Kinda scary though. The dad killed the mother?o_o
Reiner - Nice armor rendering! I spent lots of time working on my knight, trying to get the shiny feel. Eventually i gave up...
rawwad - very soft rendering. I like the helmet design.
danielh68 - Do you paint in oil a lot? It looks like an oil painting. Very cool.
Slux - I like the designs of your characters. They're charming.
andrewley - Awesome as always. Everytime i see your sketches, I feel so intimidating. But they motivate me to try harder. Your Sketchbook at conceptart.org is awesome.
doomdragon - Cute idea, but the rat's glowing eyes are kinda creepy.o_o
Yadam - That's a cool angle. The guy in the foreground looks a bit muddy. Still, I like it. Reminds me of Indiana Jones.
Don Diego - I like how the chicken has halo, heheheh. The horse doesn't seem to enjoy the moment.

That's a lot of sketches...O_O

I know I'm a bit behind schedule, but here is my knight. It took maybe three hours, but it would have gone faster if I wasn't slapping colors on with my mouse again.

I hate to point it out, but from the waist down she's really a Samus Aran knockoff... It wasn't intentional; it just happened. I guess I've just done too much Samus fanart in the past. I need to expand my armor skills. :)

Anyway, it's nothing great, but I had fun making it.

Ali? Are you an American?...cause you just banned me for some reason and i want to know what made you upset?....the fact that you are from somewhere else and have negative feelings for someone else using a different piece of software?....or was it becuase you were from somewhere different than where i was from?

No one listen to this guy...he is a jerk off

After I say what I wish to say in reply to your obvious racial connotation to your post, I will request that both my reply and your pointless post be deleted.

First of all, you should really take a look at who you are and how comfortable you are with how your life is going. I believe you are bitter and I believe that the only place you may find peace is within yourself.

Secondly, you were banned for making a racist remark towards Ali. Ali is a stand up guy, and a friend of mine. As he is a friend to many people who frequent these forums. We all respect him, and as far as you are concerned I fear you will find that yourself lacking any type of support at all.

Ali is who he is, and this is all that any of us wish him to be. You, being a bigoted racist will not subtract any of the integrity that Ali has built for himself. Please stop your senseless posts that take shots at him. It will only affirm to each and every one of us that you were banned for the right reasons.

davijin
08-14-2005, 03:05 AM
Vivaldi will you stop posting trying to make ali look bad. the truth of the matter is ali gave his opinion and you then made a racist comment towards him and got banned. now your trying to defame Ali and are just making yourself look like an idiot. so cool down or your just gonna end up getting banned from Cgtalk as well.

animateddave

I believe you are bitter

I don't think hes bitter. I just think hes a little tense since a biographical movie (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/the40yearoldvirgin/) about him is about to come out. Just relax Duane it'll be ok.

Now to reply about the subject :)

I like Keko's and Andrew's. Both are very dramatic.

The pose in Andrew's image portrays a sense of power, strength. That guy is very very serious.

The action in Keko's image just screams movement to me. Like the battlecharge at the start of a skirmish. I also like the use of muted reds.

Another piece of work that catches my eye is xitemx's oriental warrior. Very dramatic pose, I can hear the wind whistling over the cliff peak. Very nice work.
