Hi there, I'm looking into buying a decent PC that would run Maya without too much hassle and burn DVDs so I can make showreels. It's been a while since I've really looked into technical issues so I'm a bit behind on things.

anyhow, what's your opinion on this graphics card :
256Mb ATI RADEON 9250 Graphics

I know the megs ok, but I don't too much about it's quality compared to a GeForce. which one's better? would this card be ok for what I'm after?

thanks :-)

No, ATI's unless you mod them, are horrible for maya. If you want to Mod it, then do a search here on the forums.

If not, get a Geforce card, it handles maya much better then the Radeons do, and you will be much happier.

yeah if it's for maya then geforce is the right way. Ati cards have an very poor & buggy OpenGL wich makes them not an option for maya. Even a modded Radeon (ie FireGL) has many problems with maya, specially with Hardware rendering.

i see u'r on low budget so what i recommend u is a geforce 6200 (not the TurboCache PCIe version wich is very weak) or better a geforce 6600 wich has a double amount of pipes. ( wich means it's lot faster in games than the 6200)

Well that totally depends on your budget :) The best card is the one you can afford!

You should always try and get mid level game cards is you can't afford quadro's and need it for 3d work, they are usally the best deal, like the Geforce 6600.

It all depends on your budget though.
