View Full Version : 4+ million poly rendering with MR

Hi all.

I 'm trying to render an exterior scene with trees that go beyond 4 mil. polys with MR, one direct for the sun and one skylight, and keeps crashing sayin' could not allocate memory, or something. I got 4 Gigs of ram on a dual xeon Boxx workstation, max 7,5 with MR 3.4.
I don't get it. I tried maxwell and although it renders slow as hell it does complete the render.

Could it be that maxwell is 100 external renderer?

And if it is, how the hell do you render more than 4mil polys in MR?

Try going to the Renderer tab -> Raytracing, and set Method to Large BSP. This setting is especially for this kind of scene. I hope it solves your problem...

have you tried using Mental ray's memory management system? i havent tried it out, but it could be just the thing to get your scene to render.
