Hi!

My name is Laura, I'm from Argentina, and I'm a graphics designer who studies 3D animation.

Together with Aquatic, a demoscene group, we are developing a realtime animation (in OpenGL). For those who want to visit our web page, it's www.aquaticengine.com.ar (http://www.aquaticengine.com.ar) (in spanish).

Well.. mi problem is the following... I made an animation in 3DS Max 7 and I would like to export it so I that I can see it in real time with our 3D Engine.

As far as I know, the only formats that allow me to export an animated scene (not a static scene) are .VRML97 y .X3D... This last one is the newest (and best, I guess).. but I haven't succeed in finding a free plugin for 3dS Max that exports in this format... does anyone know one?

.3DS format allows few polygons... and I think it doen't export animation...

Besides, I'm not sure if .X3D is the best... and if it really exports animation (not a static scene), as I could never use it...

would you have any more information (or know a site) about .X3D? or could you tell me if there is a better format for my purpose?

Thank you very much!!

You said you were using openGL but you did no specify the engine you are building. If you are building your own 3d engine then you should ask your programmer what file format to use. If you are using someone else's engine, then its dependent on that. You could try direct 3d as well. (.x) files stores animation pretty well and works with character studio. Or you could try the free engine panda3d... they support character studio too with their .egg file.
