View Full Version : Overlaying 3D Renderings

I have an animation I rendered in Max. There was an error, so I rendered only that portion.

The animation is basically a small rectangle with black all around the sides (for the part of the 800x600 that I did not render).

I need to overlay this on the original file (that is fully rendered at 800x600). What is the best way to do this?

I have 1 file that the black, not rendered portion is still there (so the size is 800x600) and one that I batch cropped in PS (so it's now like 200x80).

I am trying to do this in Premiere. I know you can do it in AE easily, but I don't know Premiere all that well. When I drage the small(200x80) piece onto the stage in Premiere, it scales it to the full 800x600, instead of keeping it at 200x80.

Thanks.

Probably the easiest way is to create an alpha channel that masks out the rest of the 800x600 render. I've done this before when someone's come to me saying, "Can we change the color of this one chair and not have to wait 24 hours for it to rerender?"

Just go into Photoshop and create a fully black frame that's 800x600, then make a white rectangle where the corrected portion of the render is. Save this out and load it into whatever software you're using, and use it as an alpha channel in the corrected render. The black background will become fully transparent, leaving only the footage you've rerendered visible over the original.
