Thanx in advance.

If you are on WinTel then I would suggest Techsmith Camtasia Studio.

WinTel? Don't know what is, so probably not. Camtasia isn't free, is it? I need a free one.

oh sorry didn't notice you wanted free. WinTel = Windows + Intel. I guess I should just say Windows cause I like AMD as well.
Whenever asking for software suggestions please list the OS (Operating System) you intent to use the software on.

WinTel = Windows/Intel
Basically if you run windows, the program he suggested will work.
Anyway what kind of captures are you trying to get? If you just want a picture of the screen, hit print screen and then open paint and hit paste.

Unfortunately I work on a laptop with no such button ;) Is there another shortcut for it? Or a free screen-cap prog?
I'm running on Windows XP...

Do you need to record stills or video?

Just stills, I dl'd some program yesterday that's supposed to do both, but it doesn't screen grab. So I need a free screen-grabber ;P Thanx in advance.

what apps can capture video off the desktop, ie for showing rigs in your demo reel?
Take a look at this freeware program for screen capture need:
http://www.gadwin.com/download/ps_setup.exe
JasonA, Window Media Player Classic (not from MS) is a free one stop solution for Video Playing and video image capture. Take a look at that.

Unfortunately, FRAPS appears to only work with video games. I'm talking about something more long the lines of Camtasia Studio, only free :)
EDIT: hey cool tip, snagit can do it and its on $37. not free, but not painfully expensive either :) cheers

Load a movie, then click [File], and select [Save Image], this will save the video frame that is displayed. You can also pause the movie at a certain point and then save.
