Hello I have a little question.
I know how to make my own bump maps and everything for my head but
I must first have my head unwrapped nicely.
I have unwrapped it on many ways trying flatten mapping and stuff like that.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

So does someone know how to unwrap a face/head perfectly so that I can draw on it properly in photoshop?

use different flat planes i.e one for the face one for each side of head, then stitch them together. hair and hats are very usefull for hiding seams at the back and top!

If your using max theres a nice little (free) plugin called texporter that creates images of your unwrapped head that you can then take into photoshop and paint over the top. ALso for unwrapping add a cylinder uvw map and then unwrap and there shouldnt be too much unwrapping to do mostly nose, ears and maybe around eyes.

yeah well I have experience with unwrapping and do use texporter but
I was wondering what the best method was for unwrapping a head/face
becoz the head textures has to be seamless.

this is my unwrap so far

is this good enough ya think?

Oh and btw does someone know where I can find a site with reference picture of faces?
I could draw but my wacom graphhire not working very well.
To be honest this is my first time making a skin for highpoly head's
Bumbmaps, reflections and things like that isnt a big problem
I just find it important to have a great detailed diffuse map for my models.
So maybe suggestions for making a good diffusemap?

the model I made is just a test model for making a good realistic skinhttp://student-kmt.hku.nl/%7Eanthonie/cgtalk/woman%20head%20model/side%20view.jpg

All the help is welcome :)

Here's a photographic approach. It may be easier for those not experienced with painting, but doesn't give as good results IMHO.

Here's the painted approach, using multiple layers (color, bump, etc.). More work, but you get out of it what you put into it...

This is a pretty good site - they have a ton of reference photos on there and the price is reasonable.

I know 3D.sk but I don't have all the money at the moment since I'm 18 and am studying.
Students aren't so rich :P but thanks for giving me the info.

btw I made a nice diffuse map for my head (test) model and well it work out fine, but...
as you can see those eyes suck deeply. I drawed them myself with my mouse becoz my wacom Graphire3's busted.

Anyway, the endresult with my wacom wouldn't be so much better I think. I think I need a good picture of an eye but haven's found any "good" ones.

Well furthermore I haven't used any shaders for the model at this moment, but I'm intended to use Mental ray SSS.
I'm working on that at the moment to make my skin nicer.

for now my question is:

1: how to make eyes in such a way that it has almost the same realistic touch as the skin itself.

ps:I'll post as fast as possible my headmodel so that I can get feedback on it.
I only want feedback on the realism of the skin and stuff like that becoz my head test head model sucks anyway. I did it little bit quick and ended up with a too small nose and the ears are little bit wrong.

So till next time :)

Here are 2 pics of de model with my skin update

Now at this moment I find the eyes less disturbing than before, but they are not good enough. So maybe someone who knows a great site for Eye textures?

So feedback on the face about realism is more than welcome.

Hrm....well that site only costs something like $14 a month. Or $46 for 90 days. Seems like you could just go on there long enough to save all the files you need then stop paying? You're a poor student indeed if you can't scrape that much together. ;)

Good luck to you.

lol ok I exaggerate thing a bit, but just on this moment I'm little bit out of mone since I bought Vray advance and some other things. That's the reason for being "poor" at the moment
