View Full Version : Optimizing FUR?
Nerra 07-27-2005, 11:54 AM I've created a simple scene with a grass field. I used FUR to create the grass. is there some sort of way i can optimize the scene for rendering? I've heard that you can bake fur or possibly convert it. Can someone let me know what i can do?
Thanks in advance

One thing you can try is generating fur maps. Basically, generating fur maps calculates information about how the fur changes versus time. According to the help doc this is the method you would use if you are rendering fur with a distributed render.
Anyway, it seems to me that since you would be doing all the fur calculations before hand when generating the maps that it should lower your render time, though I have not tested it so I cannot be sure. I recommend doing a quick render of a few frames with and without generating fur maps and comparing render times.

Just pregenerate all the equalizer maps. It is in the advanced fur globals.
