Very cool...

This is a nice representation of what happens when people stick together and stay focused on one goal. It's too bad that the "Shirow Project" hasnt received some of the well deserved pub and praise for what some have considerd an almost impossible task due to the nature of collabs.

But what you guys have been able to achieve thus far should hold as an acid test for others while proving that with the right mix it can be done.

It's been fun watching the team grow technically over the past year and it seems like the teaser is shaping up to be killer

Cheers,

KM

I agree. Nice to see a project like this coming together...

I believe that its working because (a) its being developed from someone elses ideas (Shirow) which has great design and concept, and (b) everyone is *into* the Shirow stuff. :)

Teams fall to bits when (a) they try and develop their own material. That leads to (b) the animosity that you feel when you think you had a better idea then what you end up doing, and now (c) why are you spending all this time working on someone elses ideas when you could be doing your own thing. Common issue, everytime... However, get something like Shirow comic material and hey, cool designs, cool ideas, and everybody digs it! :D

The Shirow project is very cool! If I find some time, I'd love to get involved...

Thanks igorstshirts and kevman3D! :)

It's hard to fully define why we are still going while other collabs fade, struggle..but I think your comments make sense as part of the reason it works for us. ;)

We must be doing something right...even big budget star collabs like the CGSociety group are slowing while shirowproject is still growing during the traditionally slow summer period.

Encouraging positive comments from people like you guys really helps keep us going too

Looking real good. The ink-lines are incredible man. Are the those real edges based of the model or is half model and half texture?

Either way it's shaping up really nice. Keep us posted :buttrock:

dang. this whole thing is looking sweet. love the design of the vehicles. you guys are amazing with the cell shaded look. I can't imagine how many render tests you've gone through to get this far. Are you using Unreal for the cell shading? you gave me an idea...

We're working hard, but it's been a while since any updates, so HERE's (http://sd.onlinestoragesolution.com/img-upload/img-files/Fuchi_scene_3500x2000.jpg) a HiREZ render of Fuchi_sewer tunnel scene with a more painterly look on the tunnel wall textures

The only thing that stands out to me is the lack of specular difference. Everything seems to have a rather soft, uniform specular to it - if any at all. It would really help lift things out if you used different specular to help bring out and differentiate between metal, duco, glass, etc. :) Check out pg_karinayo (I think thats the name) for an excellent free specular shader for LW, allowing all kinds of awesome specular effects.

Another thing you could do is put an ambient occlusion pass over the top of the cell shaded render. If you want I could play around with the spec and occlusion ideas when I get home - my email is dukecg@gmail.com
