View Full Version : AMD or Intel or which should I buy from $1500

Hello guys,
I'm a freelancer..and usally work on graphics and web applications. But this time I need some 3D and Video stuffs on my PC..so what should I buy from $1500 cause this is my budget limit.

My applications.............

Adobe Creative suite 2 ..............................................(I work always)
Adobe After Effects 6.5 .............................................(I work always)
Adobe premiere pro 1.5 ..............................................(I work always)
Basic Maya and 3ds Max ............................................(I work when needed)
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 .............................(I work always)
Macromedia Flash MX 2004 ........................................(I work always)
Macromedia Director MX 2004 .....................................(I work always)
And also I use some relative plugns to these softwares....(I work when needed)

Now I want suggestion from you guys is that..which PC will best suite for me from this $1500 budget.

My current configuration is really lower than everybody maybe...
AMD ATHLONXP 2600+
MSI KT6V MAINBOARD
512 MB RAM 333 FSB (KINGSTON)
120 GB HDD SAMSUNG 7200 RPM
GEFORCE FX 5900 ULTRA
16X MSI DVD ROM
52X Sony CD-REWRITER
17" LG Flatron F700P

So I hope someone will help me to choose a better platform to suite my needs.

It's my some suggestion but I havn't information about price of these. also it's my idea not specialized:

- you need 19" monitor,

- really need Dual processor mb. MSI or Giga are good (I use giga and it's very nice!); this will very good for you when you use premiere and max or maya

- AMD have better stablish for Graphic works.(I hear it).I use AMD 2200+ xp (Dual) and it was good for me. CPU will decrease your render time.

- Actually you need 1MB or higher ram.

- and about CG, also it's my problem, very different graphic card is available but I alweays used Nvidia Geforce series and all of them was nice. you acan select geforce fx 6800 or quadro fx 700 (or higher if your money be enough!).

it's my idea; have a good shop friend!

Athlon64, X2 if you can manage it.

Asus A8N-SLI Premium 179.00

Athlon64 3500+ is the sweet spot processor, and costs 272.00 for a retail box. There is a budget dual core that is supposedly going to be available on the 2nd of August for 345.00

Corsair or OCZ PC3200 ram 2gb. 230.00
Antec True Power II 550w PS 107.00
NEC ND35xx (3540 is current model I think) DVDR x16 dual layer 50.00

6800 or 7800 series graphics card. I have seen the 7800 as low as 500.00 There are some decent 6800's in the 300.00 range.

Pretty much everything else is built in, except harddrives of course.

Dell supposedly has some great deals on LCD monitors, I suspect you have to track down some mythological coupons though. They have a 24" LCD on theri site, they say it's like 1200.00 but I have seen numerous posts claiming it's only 899.00

And likewise they supposedly have the 20.1 inch LCD for 399.00 Although that is not the price on their website.

I personally use everything on your list except Max, and X2's flat out rock. As do the A64's.

You will absolutely love this setup. FYI it is identical to a couple I have setup here.

you can get Value ram (OCZ, Corsair and Kingston) from as little as 199.00 for 2 x 1gb up to around 289.00 for premium.
