hi!
i have put an object with a raytracing material infront of my camera to distort the view. the problem is that the alpha channel is useless because the "lens"-object covers the whole view. is there a solution to ignore this object in creating the alpha channel without assigning a mate material?

thnx

Hi Psychodad,

I has a similar issue and decided multipass was the solution for me. In fact most of my work is done in multi pass rendering for effects like depth, bloom and compositing.

In your case you may be stuck because it sounds like you wish for the raytracer to distort the view including alpha - so in that case you would need to do any compositing before the ray pass or build a similar scene in B&W to output your custom channel with the same raytrace lens effect, then assemble in your favorite NLE package. I do this in Effect* with the channel set matte.

I hope someone comes along with a better answer for ya!
