View Full Version : Follow the Fire painting
Pinky_Powers 10-28-2002, 01:52 PM It is finally done!! This is my fourth attempt at completing this painting, and just like all the others; I hate it! lol it looks nothing like what I wanted it to, and I am left with a feeling and maybe even a realization that I such!! lol, I actually had many strong thoughts of not posting this work because I am VERY unhappy with it. But I will never get anywhere in Digital painting if I do not submit such a thing to the pros for criticism. So please, help me. But keep in mind, I am not going to retouch ANYTHING on THIS painting, but I will talk all comments to heart, and implement them into future pieces.

I'll try and help you a little here, if I can. You have started pretty well here. Digital painting takes some time, and alot of mistakes, just like any other discipline.
I think the lights streaming out of the clouds are a good attempt.
The thing that bothers me is where is the "fire" coming from?
It looks magical in origin, but no witch or wizard, not even a hand.
The flames are too regular, and only two colors, put in green and blue and a dark red accent in places.
The ground is not too bad, it just needs more irregularities.
Also there is no explaination in the pic about why there is grass growing where the fire hits.
The best artwork you can create, tells a story all on its own. You've heard that a picture tells a thousand words, well that applies to paintings as well.
My best advice, is just to keep trying. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, because you will no matter how hard you try. And if you think you need more help, post something as a work in progress and get feedback, and help, that way.

Thank you for the help.
And just to clear something up, the fire is meant to be magical in origin, well not really magical, but super-natural. It is meant to symbolize God sending life to the dry and desert-hearted places or people.
