Wow, very nice. . .
What program? Any plugins?
How long did you work on it?
How long did it take to render?
What size textures?
How many poly's?
Etc. . .

This is just so nice! Do you have a larger version of this, or a wireframe?
Keep up the great work!

Except that most of Savinoff's work had a glowing horizon in it.
Yup, but it does seem reminiscent. ;)
BTW, what's his website nowadays. ?
After 3DLuvr, he had his own website but that doesn't seem to work (or I don't remember it correctly.)
Very nice work.
And very nice website. Although the text is a tad too small when I'm browsing at 1600x1200.

Thanks for the replies!
It's rendered with animatek world builder. The trees are l-systems (fractal programming language). The textures are half taken from my photos and half from a commercial texture package. I worked for two whole weeks in the image. There are hundreds of objects, and only loading the scene requieres al LOT of ram. The rendering time is 2:15 for frame in ATHLON 1.2Ghz (266) and 1:00 in ATHLON 1.8Ghz (333).
I prefer to use large textures and render in higher resolutions and then resize the image to a lower resolution to avoid artifacts in animations.
I don't have a wireframe of the scene, but I can render one if you are interested.
I must say that the real depth of the image is thanks to the post production work and the textures. If I show you the non processed image, you would cry ;)
Regards!

Amazing work! Personally I would preffer it without the go faster lines at the bottom but that's just my taste. Tends to detract from the beauty.
Oh and Savinoff's site can be found at, funnily enough, www.savinoff.com
Again, amazing work esp. on your website!
wonderful web site!
I was redirected to your site from CG talk and I have to say I like your works a lot, especially the sense of design.
Not to mention the 3D works of nature. The colors are very rich and vivid in the secen. I hope you might have a little tutorial on one the piece you in the future. Please keep on the great work :-)

Now just so there is no question about the time...is that 2 hours and 15 minutes or is it 2 minutes and 15 seconds? I assume it is the former one. I know AWB takes a while to render some things. If it is the latter and only 2 minutes...then damn GREAT job!
Thanks

You got some mad skillz there slime. I was very impressed by the design work, clean and crisp. Simplistic too in a way. Looking at it some more. I'm gonna need to consider more my future website after seeing this beauty.

Hello!
Thanks everybody for the nice comments. I'm very very happy you like my work. :) Sometimes it's great to hear that kind of compliments to cheer up! :scream:
About the l-systems, there are a lot of information out there. search with google "l-system" and you will found more than a thousand hits. Here is a good page to learn how they work :
l-system trees (http://www.ipm.sci-nnov.ru/~demidov/VRML/Garden/3Dtree.htm)
About the tutorials, I will make some tutorials the next month. I will begin with the afterburn clouds, but you can post suggestions in the guestbook/forum of my page.
ClingFree: The time is 2 hours. (sorry to dissapoint you ;)) There are a vast amount of objects in the scene...
psumo: The cathedral is a great model by Marko Davrovik. I only modified his model, created the lightning, placed the camera and retouched the final image it in photoshop. He should earn the credit
xyth: are you sure you want to see it? :D
Best regards!
Daniel
slime: erh... ye... yes. I think... somehow I became irresolute. Or not?
Anyway, simple things are the best things (think about women, for example... ;).
I've checked those tree-pages, but still, I haven't found ANY which could be similar to yours. Maybe the textures plays with me...
How about the grass?

Thank you!
And some cry comes here... How? Have you made with some z-depth image or you just take this and repainted the whole pic?
The cry is about I can't find any clue what tools are used. Or actually how... Okay, that's praise you... ;)
What I guess there is a blurred layer which applied with some soft-colors or whatever, but that's all. How about the rest? Just some hint, please...
Thanks again,
-xyth

Well, the post production involves a lot of layers. Colour correction, soflight effect in highlights, add grain, unsharp mask, an a lot more complex.
The "depth of field" is faked. You can put a flare on a point outside the picture and the apply it with a mask based on a threshold of the image to get a simillar effect, but as I've said, there are a lot of layers involved.
Of course, it's not retouched in any way. Just apply the post-layers in after effects. It works in all the frames, so you can render animations withouht problem.
I'm going to upload a part of the forest animation to my site, so you can see it. The problem of this scene is not the post production stuff, but the time a single frame needs to render ;)
I can post the after effects project if you want.
Regards!
Daniel.

what do you mean by post production? is that mean a render without any touch up by hands?

nice work, I look forward to animation!

hi!
HapZungLam: post production is what it's added to the original scene to improve it.
I was not refering at touch up by hands :)
stephen2002: I just uploaded the animation. You can find it in my site.
Regards!
Daniel.
Hiya,
That anim is amazing! I was always afraid of making this big nature scenes, because of computerized unnature objects. You showed it's possible to make it believeable.
> I can post the after effects project if you want.
Wouldn't you mind? I (we) would be honored... :D
Thanks a lot,
