Inspired by the self portraits of Andrew Jones, total worktime: 12 hours over 3 days, for a Large-format-digital-printing class. Size: 22 by 32 inches, photoshop 6.0 and a wacom tablet.

I'm not sure where I came up with this idea, I just started drawing and pushing pixels around. I think it's about as done as it's gonna get.

Whaddya all think? I was going for a kinda illustrative painting approach, and looking at how leyendecker and rockefeller treated color and shadow, even though the subject matter is slightly different then anything they were likely to have painted.

Something that really strikes me about this pic is the sense of depth you have achieved trough your lighting - I first thought I was looking at a photo of a sculpture.
Can't give you any advice on how to improve your pic - I'm more of a technical guy and like it the way it is.

Cheers, Carsten

WOW, great painting skills! ;)

CactusJack is right, Cathedral (Tomka Bagiņskiego) base on the same idea. Hmmm, Tomek win Siggraph with this animation?

And about your drawing:

In my opinion you use to much colors? It don?t look strange, scene needs shadows (and half-shadows), maybe some DOF effects? Some lights? Some LIFE ;) You use organic, but this organic looks dead.

Otherwise. Grate work!

its a painting job in photoshop, using a wacom tablet while looking at a reference. No photo manipulation. :) thanks!
