View Full Version : question about triangulation in Max
peanut 10-28-2002, 03:43 AM yes i get little trouble with Max when i export a mesh in maya
id like my mesh not to be triangulated if possible ...
for some reason every Mesh that i import from Max will triangulate and this gets rather troubling when you want a clean clean surface ...
how can i avoid that ?
thank you

Have you tried using a PolyObject and exporting quads via OBJ export?

I ran into the same problem a couple weeks back.
The solution I found was to add an edit mesh modifier on top of my stack. It triangulates the faces but doesn’t make them visible (Very important when doing your morph targets in Max).
Then I use MAX2OBJ (http://www.habware.at/max4/max2obj4.zip) and click the quad check box. Then just import your mesh into Maya and it should hold the quads.
Don't forget to turn the quality of the export up; the default is 1; 10 seams to work pretty good for me.
