idiom 07-22-2005, 06:28 AM Just started this today and I wanted to get some critique before I do much more work on it. How could I get more of a sense of movement and how could the colours be changed to give more atmosphere?

I think this stance is more dramatic, what do you guys think?

nice work!
my crits:
he looks as if he got captured while decapitating that poor sucker. he almost looks as if he were feeliung a little guilty.
what i would do:
change the camera angle a little, either rotating to the left or to the right, so you characters are not lined up like on a stage (parallel to the beholder)
maybe you could also rotate the image plane for drama
raise his left arm so he is really pulling that guy into the air! (more dramatic pose)
rotate the swordsmans body (his shoulders should be twisted in comparison to his hips so he is lying all his power into his strike)
let him look at his victim...hes a fierce soldier and doesnt care if anybody is looking

I didn't want to have to completely redraw everything so the viewangle is the same (Maybe next time :D) but I've worked on the guy's back a bit, hopefully showing more of a stretch or something. Maybe I could change the helmet to show the guy's face a bit and give him a mean expression.
I'm not very good at environments so I thought I might just leave the background out.
So now I've added more details and some extra light sources. I think the warrior guy would look better with more detail on his armour. Anyone got some good examples of armour trim or something?

This made it look completely disconnected I think, his head and right arm look kind of twisted strangly, if I'm seeing it correctly...his body is facing one way, and his head is twisted all the way around...

it may just be his bicep that's weird on his right arm...that skull makes everything seem to float out of context...

Maybe the helmet is somehow obscuring which way it looks like he's looking? He's looking down his arm at the skeleton.
So his head is turned about 90 degrees to his torso so I'm not sure what you mean.
EDIT: I've redone the left shoulder armour thing.
