Anyone have any experience with these. Recommendations? I want to keep my new computer as cool as can be when I get it.

What case are you putting it in? Some cases allow for an 80 mm fan right around the drive bay, or if its an antec/cheiftech design, IN front of the drives in the drive bay.

(Fan blowing from front to back of drives is the best).

If you don't have something like that, there are a wide variety of heatsink/fan combo's for underneath the drive. All of them are pretty much the same, differences are just in fan size, speed, and position.

Well I'm mostly looking for 2 computers. My new one which will have a Enermax Case(similar to the ones they use at Alienware). And for my old computer that I will be handing down to my parents. It's a Dell case (from a P3 933...so it's a cream colored one...not the newer black ones.) The HD is located right underneigth the 3.5 floppy drive (perpindicular to it...so it's mounted vertically) This causes the HD to get extremely hot. Very hot to the touch.

I'm pretty sure I could get a fan to blow from front to back in my new machine since it's an Enermax case but I'm not sure about this Dell one.

How do these things usually work by the way. Do they mount right in front of the HD and blow outside air right onto the drive (across the drive) or do they take up their own 5.25 drive bay(or share it with the HD)? Thanks for the help.

On the enermax case, you'll be able to mount a normal 80mm fan in front of the drives.

There is a fan mount right in front of the drives, works wonderfully.

They usually mount underneath the drive, and blow upwards onto the electronics.

These can usually be had for around 10-15 USD and do a fairly decent job of cooling. Some models are a bit louder then others, so try and find one with a lower rpm (2-3k rpm) for your parents drive.

You could also get a 5.25 bay drive cooler, and mount the drive up there.

So one of these would work?

Do you have any specific models you would recommend or places to purchase these?

check plycon.com and 3dcool.com for a few coolers.. but if you turn a hard drive upside down, there are 4 screw holes.. and there are coolers that screw directly into those and point a fan directly into the innerds of the hard drive...

i personally have an antec case.. as seen in the posted pictures.. and i put an 80mm fan pulling the air out.. i decided on a fan to pull the air since it would only suck in the dust of the room otherwise.. and it seems to work fine :)
