i was hoping to ask how i could render a pic of my character, but have it show up as smooth shaded with wireframe. i have tried messing with the hardware render buffer options, but cant seem to trouble shoot it anymore.

i am aware that i could hit print screen and paste it into photoshop, but the quality is bad when i do that.

any suggestions?

Which version of Maya are you using?

if you're using maya 4.0, you should give wireDATA3.0 a try ... it's a nice plug-in featuring different possibilities of rendering wires (available on highend3d.com) ... :)

you can also just do a hardware render at a high resolution... This will capture wire frames and usually yields good results...Good luck with it.

In the hardware render view you can render wire frame, use hardware alpha, do a couple passes(for nicer quality I find), then change wire frame to shaded and render that. Then using after effects or you fav compositing program,(or Photoshop) you can do a simple over operation. But the wire frame plugin is much much better.

hey Darrell, take a look at this thread

it looks like this plugin, if its available yet, would do quite well for wireframe rendering. He says its for nurbs and polys too
