View Full Version : It took about 8 hours to download maya and now it doesn't want to install, help!?

It's maya 4 personel learning edition. I clicked on the installer. The files are extrating and after that an icon is suppose to appear on my desktop like most of the things that I download and install. But for this download of maya nothing appeared on my desktop. Do you know why. Will I have to download it again. I hope not it's going to take another 8 hours! I extracted the files about 4 times and still nothing appears on my desktop.

Okay the icon doesn't appear but is the application installed? Do a search for maya and see if you can find the original .exe ( assume you are a pc).

I did a search for maya. And 4 things appeared. For each of them under "type" it says: file folder, application, stuffit compressed, shortcut. I clicked on shortcut. Then a window for stuffit appeared. Nothing happens put I clicked on a stuFf it icon in the task bar. Then an error message appears and says: "The archive uses a file format that is not supported by the application." But I don't think that this is important because I used unzip and it worked. BUT I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO START MAYA. I also went in "start" and all programs and I can't find maya .

search for maya.exe - if it's there give it a try

In search under "all or part of the file name" I wrote: .exe. Then under "a word or phrase in the file" I wrote: maya. Only the maya application was found and when I double click on it it extracts the files again and still know maya on my desktop and all programs. After that I wrote maya.exe in both and nothing was found. Do you have another solution, hope it's not to download it again?

i assume the maya PLE download is a package that won't extract or install if the file is incomplete or corrupted

if the maya PLE setup procedure starts your download should be fine - what operating are you trying to install it on? - does the setup finish successfully? - setup will show you the path were maya will be installed - is there anything in there after finishing the setup? - and so on...

order the dam disc its 5 bux!!!.....8 hours! lol...jeez....juss order the disc ...problem solved

Getting my SoftImage Experience took 1½ - 2 months, 8 hours is nothing next to that.

oh yeah! I took even 3 months until it was in my mailbox :annoyed:


BTW: Dominic123, you can also find Maya PLE on the Unreal Tournament 2003 CD3. Anyone of your buddies will have it, for sure.

It works now. I can go in maya. This happened to me before. To make it install I have to go in run and type: msconfig, then uncheck boxes, restart pc then install.

Was it because of things in your startup config?

I think so. I have to load windows in diognostic startup -load basic devices and services only.
