So I'm mapping this character that I build. For the arm I had used cylindrical mapping. The arm is one piece of geomertry but because it is bent I want to use two cylindrical mapping on them. First I highlighted the upper arm faces, did a cylindrical map and everything goes well. Now here is the weird part. For the lower arm, I try to repeart the same procedue that I did on the upper arm but nothing happend. I go into UV ediotr adjust the UV and it works but when I applied uv mapping on them such as plannar or cylindrical, it will not work. I tried to seperate them into two different geometries but when I tried to extract the faces maya says poly face has only 1 piece, ignored. This is not the first time I do uv unwrapping in maya and this has never happend before does anyone know the solution to this problem?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

you might try closing and reopening maya. I just had a similar problem, no matter what I did I couldnt map an area of a model, although up to then there was no problem. I closed and reopened and everything worked.

thx for the suggestion, that seems to be working but not 100% and it is happening more and more often now. I'm assume you are using 6.5 as well?

no I'm using 6.1. Sorry I don't have enough experience to give more tips. Did you try optimizing your scene (file/optimize scene)or deleting history? (edit/delete/history)

I ran into something similar and it turned out that my mesh had two UV sets and I couldn't get rid of one. My solution was to export out as .obj with everything unchecked and reimport a clean mesh.
